From the Prinicipal's Blog.....
As Carson Graham continues to work as a community on our collective journey towards reconciliation, we were honoured to have Phyllis Webstad join us for our opening of the year assembly.
Phyllis is the founder of Orange Shirt Day and shared her story about her experience with residential schools.
It was a very powerful presentation that spoke to courage and understanding. As a school, we also celebrated Orange Shirt Day on Monday October 1, where students and staff were encouraged to wear orange. The Student Voice Leadership Team handed out small orange shirt cut-outs with pins to students as they entered the school and lockers were decorated with orange. The Indigenous Studies class worked with the foods classes to make orange shirt cookies with proceeds going to the IRSS survivors fund and students visited classes providing them with information about the meaning of Orange Shirt Day.
Although we celebrated Orange Shirt Day on October 1, there are many activities and learning that take place throughout the year.
Thank you to all the staff and student leaders that were involved in helping us on our collective journey towards reconciliation.
CGPAC Executive have taken the initiative to have a First Nation topic addressed at each general meeting to support the Reconciliation process.
